After leaving school followed by studying Engineering, my career began being employed as a Research and Development Engineer in the UK Aircraft testing industry in 1990. I continued in that department until 2017, also becoming registered as an Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council through the Royal Aeronautical Society in 1991.
During my aviation testing career the introduction of IBM desktop computer technology and electronic communications became widely available. It's application was particularly prevalent in the aircraft testing industry. This taught me about logical and intuitive processes and systems, which gave me valuable experience in the use of digital technology. More importantly the potential for its use in other areas of business. In particular how it could be used with the then revolutionary public ‘Internet’ which was on the horizon back in the mid 1990’s.
By the start of the new millennium, the ‘internet’ had become widely established in homes and businesses and continued to grow. It was followed with the introduction of public mobile Wi-Fi technology in the late 2000’s.
Throughout the early 2000’s I began learning, developing and applying systems to easily trade the stock market without emotion and with controlled minimal risk.
After 2010 I also began spending my free time learning about wealth creation and financial freedom, which I continue to develop and grow through my online business interests.
While I have a passion for aviation, the aviation manufacturing industry in the UK was in decline. After 2011 significant technical projects, of relevance to my job, were becoming scarce.
As a result, changes in working practices and financial constraints were introduced into the workplace. I began to suffer health problems from work-related stress issues. I was eventually diagnosed with severe depression in early 2017.
I didn’t know it at the time, but depression creeps up on you slowly over time. If the symptoms are not recognised early enough, it eventually overwhelms you and begins to affect your physical health in a variety of ways.
While mental health is becoming more recognised and discussed in the workplace, unfortunately many companies are still not taking enough appropriate action to remove or significantly reduce the impact of their workplace behaviours, policies and procedures on their employee’s mental health. I am certain that there must be others throughout industry in a similar situation to which I experienced, as well as countless others who suffer in silence. There may also be those who do not recognise their symptoms and are unaware that they have a problem developing.
As a result of my depression and its treatment, I was fortunate in that I managed to change my mind-set and outlook on life. The world around me completely altered as I explored the science of mental health, spiritual well being, mindfulness and motivation.
At the beginning of 2018 the company I worked for transferred me to a different department, as an Integration Engineer, due to lack of work in my previous department. I quickly came to the realisation that I was not happy in that role. Probably one of the worst things anyone can do with their life is to earn their living doing something they do not enjoy.
Having accepted that I was no longer happy in my job, which was now also affecting my physical health, I knew that I had to get away from that toxic environment.
In 2018 I made the decision to leave the aviation industry and the corporate environment to pursue my entrepreneurial ambitions, exploring how I could apply my skills and knowledge to the rapidly growing opportunity of the online business world.
Having previously authored several digital publications in my free time I became a bestselling co-author in 2018. This encouraged me to continue with my writing specialising in self-improvement, motivation and wealth creation, including financial trading, online business and internet marketing.
I have always believed that the best way to help oneself is by helping others and I also believe in giving something back to help others. Having overcome a difficult period in my life and having eventually escaped my declining spiral of depression, getting out of a job that was slowly killing me, I had an epiphany. I knew then that I had to use my skills and knowledge to provide and sell products, information and training that could help others personally and/or in on-line business. Then using the profit generated to help less fortunate people, animals, charities and other good causes and projects etc. This led to the company’s genesis and why I started the business. I founded my own company, the ‘AJS Operating Company Ltd’, as a platform to operate my various business operations from and distribute profits from to help others. The company was formed on 16th April 2018.
